ANZAC day is when we commemorate all the soldiers that sacrificed their lives for their country.
We celebrate ANZAC day on the 25 April because its the day that soldiers landed at Gallipoli.
ANZAC is an acronym for Australian New Zealand Army Corps
The ANZACs gave their lives fighting the Turks.

The ANZACs landed at Gallipoli in ANZAC Cove on 25 of April 1915.
It was a fierce battle it lasted 8 months.
Many soldiers gave their lives fighting for their country: 44,000 British/French died, 8,700 Australians died, 2,721 New Zealanders died and even more Turks died. The Turks lost 87,000 soldiers.

People wear poppies because they started to grow where the war happened and so we can respect the people that died in the war.
Two French ladies made the first poppy to rember their husbands.

Did you know? Later on in world war 2 there were 15,843,000 deaths!
